The 2020 British Grand Prix is next up on the Formula One racing schedule of races that could be cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak as race officials at Silverstone and Formula 1 say they will make their decision at the end of April on whether or not to hold the 2020 British Grand Prix on its currently scheduled date of July 19, 2020.
All races in the 2020 Formula 1 season up to the Canadian Grand Prix [currently scheduled for June 14, 2020] have either been cancelled or postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and race officials of the Canadian Grand Prix are expected to make a decision on their race within the next two weeks.
The British Grand Prix issued a statement which said, in part: “…our timeline gives us until the end of April to make a final decision. The safety of our fans, colleagues and the F1 community will be our priority and we will continue to engage with the appropriate authorities.”
The next F1 events scheduled after the Canadian Grand Prix and before the British Grand Prix are the French Grand Prix [June 28] and Austrian Grand Prix [July 5] – neither of which have issued official statements regarding cancellation or postponement of their races.
F1 is hoping to settle on a 15-18 race season as teams have waived their rights to consultation on the calendar and it has been agreed that the 2020 season could run into January next year if that is required. A season has to have at least eight races for it to be counted as a World Championship.
