2020 Hungarian Grand Prix Is On…But Without Fans

According to the race organizers, the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix will be contested – albeit, without spectators – at the Hungaroring in Mogyorod, Hungary.

There will no spectators because the Hungarian government announced a ban on all gatherings of more than 500 people until August 15, 2020, due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The race is currently scheduled to be held on August 2, 2020, but the date may get changed as Formula One shuffles the schedule after a twin pair of races in Austria and the UK in July and Hungarian race organizers still maintain hope that a race could possibly be held after August 15 with spectators.

The 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix organizers issued a statement explaining their decision:

“It is now evident that any F1 race in Hungary can now only be held behind closed doors. Furthermore, it will also ensure that a global audience of millions can still watch the race taking place in Hungary via F1’s vast international broadcast coverage. As such, we are continuing our working with F1 to try and find a way to make this possible.”
