2021 Australian Grand Prix Under Threat Of Postponement Due To Covid-19

Currently scheduled for March 21, 2021, at Albert Park in Melbourne – the 2021 Formula One season-opening Australian Grand Prix could be postponed due to existing Covid-19 restrictions in Australia.

According to an Australian spokesperson, meetings will be held “in the coming weeks” among the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, the Australian government and Formula 1 officials to ultimately determine the course of action to take with the race.

Until a spate of recent outbreaks, Australia enjoyed the distinction of being one of the world’s best countries at handling the Covid-19 pandemic and continues to maintain strict quarantine rules – especially for international arrivals, such as would be the case with Formula 1 teams. In fact, last year’s Australian Grand Prix was cancelled due to a McLaren team member who had contracted the Covid-19 virus.

Should the 2021 Australian Grand Prix be postponed, next up on the F1 schedule would be the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28, 2021.
