2021 F1 Schedule Change – Canadian Grand Prix Out, Turkish Grand Prix In

Formula One has announced that the 2021 Canadian Grand Prix at Montreal has been cancelled and will be replaced by the Turkish Grand Prix on the original June 13, 2021, date at Turkey’s Istanbul Park track. This marks the second consecutive year that the Canadian Grand Prix has been cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

For this year’s event, Canada’s current travel restrictions have made it impossible to enter Canada without a mandatory 14-day quarantine, said an F1 statement.

Despite this, the contract for a race on Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has been extended by two years to 2031.

Meanwhile, it will be the second consecutive year that Turkey will be an F1 circuit stand-in race after having been added to the calendar last year in place of one of the many Covid-19-caused cancellations that year. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton clinched his record-equaling seventh world drivers’ title at last year’s race.
