Formula One has released their tentative – due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic – racing calendar for the 2022 season but it is already known that the Chinese Grand Prix, scheduled to be held in Shanghai, has been dropped from next year’s Formula 1 calendar and will be replaced by the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola on April 24, 2022.
The Chinese Grand Prix race has not been held since 2019 – prior to the start of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – but four other races also cancelled by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic – in Australia, Canada, Japan and Singapore – are currently scheduled for 2022.
However, the Australian Grand Prix, which normally leads the F1 parade, will intentionally relinquish its spot – to gain time to make more Covid-19 preparations – and the first race in the 23-race 2022 F1 season will instead be in Bahrain on 20 March 20, 2022, with the final race in Abu Dhabi on November 20, 2022 – ending three weeks earlier due to the FIFA men’s World Cup being hosted by nearby Qatar beginning in November 2022.
Just one new race – held in Miami on May 8, 2022 – has been added to the calendar for 2022.
Additionally, the sprint race qualifying format introduced this year may be engaged in as many as six races in 2022 depending on expenses involved in conducting that format.
