A Third Formula One Race In The Middle East? Iran Touts Qeshm Island

Are you ready for a third Formula One race in the Middle East? The only countries able to afford hosting expensive Formula One race spectacles these days are oil-rich and/or government-run states and Iran has become the latest of these – joining Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Russia and Azerbaijan – to possibly be included in an upcoming F1 race calendar. The Iranian proposal would have the race being held on Qeshm Island, an island in the Persian Gulf in the fractious Strait of Hormuz, just off the coast of the nation’s southern tip.

The Formula One calendar currently has 21 races scheduled next year – with room to move up to 25 races – if approved by the sport’s top three teams [Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull], making it seem possible that additional races can be added in the near future.
