Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Changes Track For 2021 Race
The 2021 version of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be different as race officials will be changing the configuration of the Yas Marina circuit to enhance overtaking opportunities in the traditional Formula One season finale.
The Yas Marina circuit debuted in 2009 but – similar to many other tracks on the calendar – overtaking opportunities have been few and far between, so race officials will modify the track to encourage overtaking ahead of this year’s race.
Specifically, the chicane at Turns Five and Six will be removed and the Turn Seven hairpin will be widened, the four right-angled corners at Turns 11 to 14 will be replaced by one long banked corner and, finally, the Turn 17, 18, 19 and 20 corners will be smoothed out similar to the Turn 11-14 changes.
