Amazon has jettisoned former “Top Gear” and “The Grand Tour” co-host, Jeremy Clarkson, from their Amazon Prime Video streaming services when his current contractual obligations end in 2024 – after he made controversial and inflammatory remarks about the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, in a column for a British tabloid in December 2022.
Clarkson began as a co-host [along with Richard Hammond and James May] of BBC’s popular “Top Gear” motoring program, then moved on to Amazon Prime’s “The Grand Tour” with Hammond and May and finally got a spinoff show on Amazon Prime – “Clarkson’s Farm” – new seasons of that show had already been commissioned will go ahead but will end in 2024.
Amazon reportedly made the decision last month, shortly after Clarkson’s column was published but declined to produce an official response until this month.
Clarkson wrote an apology today on Instagram and claims he emailed both Markle and Prince Harry after the column’s publication, to apologize.
