An American In Belgium

The good news is that an American driver will finally be participating in a legitimate Formula One race. The bad news is that he will be driving for Marussia. American Alexander Rossi will replace Max Chilton at the 2014 Belgian Grand Prix while Chilton is embroiled in contract issues. Rossi came from Caterham where he was a test driver and becomes the first American driver in an F1 race in seven years [Scott Speed, who never finished higher than 20th for Toro Rosso in 1.5 years of F1 racing] though it is likely to be only for this race as Chilton has voluntarily stepped aside to give Marussia a chance to sell his seat.

The Belgian Grand Prix is scheduled at Spa-Francorchamps for August 24, 2014.
