Surprise, surprise – it was another 1-2 Mercedes snoozefest at the 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix as Valtteri Bottas won the race with teammate Lewis Hamilton close behind in second place. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was a distant third.
Bottas and Hamilton were on the front row as the race began and it was Bottas – the pole-sitter – who snagged the lead at the first turn and then proceeded to hold off Hamilton the rest of the way. Vettel, in third, was never able to mount a serious challenge.
With the victory, Bottas takes the lead over Hamilton in the 2019 Formula One drivers’ championship standings.
