Another Batmobile Up For Sale

Another Batmobile is for sale – and while it is not the original 1940s vehicle the Caped Crusader originally drove – it is a Batmobile created before the 1960s “Batman” television series debuted. This particular Batmobile is a converted 1956 Oldsmobile 88 that was licensed by DC Comics as an official Batmobile in 1963 – two years before the Lincoln Futura that George Barris designed as the Batmobile used for the 1960s “Batman” television series. The 1963 Batmobile, however, was never used in the television series nor to promote it after it began airing.

The George Barris-designed Batmobile sold for $4.2 million at the Barrett-Jackson auction last year.

The 1963 Batmobile will be auctioned by Heritage Auction in Dallas, Texas, on December 6, 2014 but bidding begins on November 17, 2014.
