It was the same old, same old in Formula One racing this week as Mercedes went unchallenged again in claiming the first and second spots in the 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton took first place while his teammate Nico Rosberg took second and Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was in the third and final podium position.
The pair of Mercedes took off from the start and while never running completely away from the next four cars of Red Bull and Ferrari – Ricciardo, Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen – generally held unquestioned control of the race for all 70 laps. The only minor racing drama was for who would finish on the podium and even that was anti-climactic as Vettel never got close enough to seriously challenge Ricciardo for overtaking maneuvers on the final laps. Only six of the starting 22 cars finished on the lead lap.
With the results, Hamilton overtakes Rosberg in the overall driver standings with 192 points to Rosberg’s 186 points and a three-way battle for third continues with Ricciardo holding 115 points to Raikkonen’s 114 points and Vettel’s 110 points.
