Aston Martin has indicated that they will not appeal the penalty against their top driver, Fernando Alonso, at last weekend’s 2024 Australian Grand Prix.
The 42-year-old Alonso, a two-time Formula One world champion, was penalized for “potentially dangerous” driving when he brake checked the Mercedes of George Russell on Turn Six during the next-to-last lap of the race, causing Russell to crash.
For that unsportsmanlike maneuver, Alonso was handed a 20-second penalty which dropped him from sixth to eighth in the race.
