Various news reports indicate that German automaker Audi will drop their participation in both the German touring car championship and LeMans in order to return to the Formula One circuit in 2016. Audi, part of the larger Volkswagen Group which also includes Porsche, is said to be exiting the touring car championship inext year and handing over the LeMans racing duties to Porsche while they concentrate on their 2016 return to the F1 circuit.
Audi competed and dominated in pre-World War II grand prix-style racing but has not competed in modern day Formula One racing, which began in 1950.
The next race in the Formula One circuit is the United States Grand Prix in Austin on November 2, 2014.
