Ayrton Senna Declared Fastest Formula One Driver Of All-Time

Brazil’s Ayrton Senna has been declared to be the fastest driver in Formula One history – or at least since 1983.

To help in celebrating Formula 1’s 70th Anniversary last month, Amazon Web Services compiled the big data — using data from all drivers since 1983 to build a machine-learning tool which could analyze each driver’s pure performance based on qualifying laps. The performance was then compared to the driver’s teammate across the time range to build a web of interlinked performance data.

Not too surprisingly, Senna – who is already generally considered to be the sport’s top driver in history – takes the top spot, with Germany’s Michael Schumacher coming in a very close second, a mere 0.114 seconds behind, and current world champion Lewis Hamilton finishing off the “podium” if you will.
