Bernie Floats Female Formula One Idea

F1 head Crusty Barnacle, Bernie Ecclestone, takes the Lewis Hamilton Doofus Moment Award this week for the 2015 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Formula One chief and crusty barnacle imitator, Bernie Ecclestone, floated the possibility of starting a female drivers-only Formula One championship while in attendance at last weekend’s 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix won by Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari.

Although the last female driver to compete in a Grand Prix-scoring race was way back in 1976 [Lella Lombardi, who also scored points that year], Ecclestone floated the idea to current team bosses as a possible companion race on a typical Formula One racing weekend.

The list of potential legitimate F1 drivers, however, is small and in all likelihood, would make the idea untenable for anything more than a diminutive 10-car field.

The 2015 Formula One season continues with the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai on April 12, 2015.
