Bitcoin Sponsors Ed Carpenter Racing For Indianapolis 500

Ed Carpenter Racing [ECR] will have Bitcoin as the primary sponsor and paint scheme on Rinus VeeKay’s number 21 Chevrolet for this month’s Indianapolis 500.

ECR will also be the first team in race history to offer Bitcoin cryptocurrency as a payment option for all of its employees.

ECR is also offering a crowdfunding option for the team – via third-party online payment app, Strike – by supplying a unique QR code allowing anyone in the world to donate.

The Indianapolis 500 was held in August in 2020 due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic – it was the first time in race’s 110-year history that it had not been held at its traditional Memorial Day weekend spot. But for the 2021 version, the Indianapolis 500 will return to its traditional Memorial Day weekend spot [with the race being held on Sunday, May 30], however, with the Covid-19 pandemic continuing, attendance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be capped at 40% capacity [approximately 135,000].
