It was a classic snoozefest to lead off the 2024 Formula One season as the fastest cars – Red Bull – finished with a 1-2 placing with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, Jr. claiming the third and final podium position.
Max Verstappen was on pole position and led start to finish without being challenged while his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, glided into second position on Lap 17 and those two never lost those positions for the remainder of the race. Sainz, Jr. claimed third place on Lap 19 and the final 38 laps of the race finished with that trio in the podium positions.
With the victory, Verstappen has the early lead in the driver’s standings with 26 points, counting his extra point for the fastest lap of the race, with Perez in second with 18 and Sainz, Jr. in third with 15 points.
