Bubba Wallace To Depart Richard Petty Motorsports Team At End Of Season

NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace has announced that he will be leaving Richard Petty Motorsports after the 2020 season.

Wallace has yet to win a Cup race during his three seasons driving for Richard Petty Motorsports – but has a career-best five top-10 finishes this season and is currently ranked 23rd in the Cup standings, also a career best.

Wallace is the lone Black driver competing full time in NASCAR at the national series level and, as such, has gained national attention as an activist for racial equality. In June 2020, Wallace was successful in getting NASCAR to ban the Confederate flag from all of its tracks.

Richard Petty Motorsports will finish the season’s final nine races with Wallace and announce their plans for a new driver at a later date.

Wallace, meanwhile, has signed several non-NASCAR-affiliated sponsorship deals with Door Dash, Columbia Sportswear, and Beats by Dre, while he awaits a new team.
