Carlos Sainz, Jr. Grabs Pole Position For 2023 Singapore Grand Prix

Ferrari was fastest in all three practice sessions so it was fitting that their car should be on pole position for tomorrow’s 2023 Singapore Grand Prix and it was Carlos Sainz, Jr. doing the honors, edging Mercedes’ George Russell to the top spot.

The qualifying session saw plenty of drama unfold in all three sessions beginning with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll crashing which brought the first session to a premature close and eliminated McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in the process.

The second session was even more dramatic as both Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were eliminated quite easily by most of the remaining 15 cars in the field – with Verstappen finishing 11th and Perez finishing 13th – though Verstappen may be incurring penalties for impeding that could drop him farther down the starting grid for tomorrow’s race.

Without the looming presence of the Red Bulls, the third session was a refreshing free-for-all as at least seven cars had legitimate realistic chances of snagging the pole position, but it was Sainz, Jr. who triumphed in the end.
