Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, Jr. made a quick recovery from appendicitis earlier in the month and won the 2024 Australian Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, with McLaren’s Lando Norris in the third and final podium position.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was on pole position but suffered a brake fire and retired after the fifth lap of the race, clearing the way for a free-for-all for the victory in the first competitive Formula One race of the 2024 season.
With the result, Verstappen clings to first place in the driver standings with 51 points to 47 for Leclerc and 46 for Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez.
