Carpenter Wins Indy 500 Pole Over Hinchcliffe

It may be a moot point but Ed Carpenter has won back-to-back pole positions for the Indianapolis 500 after nipping Jimmy Hinchcliffe by a mere .228 with Carpenter’s four-lap average of 231.067 to Hinchcliffe’s 230.839. Carpenter, however, was unable to turn last year’s pole position into a victory – finishing 10th overall. Will Power joins Carpenter and Hinchcliffe on the front row with a 230.697 average speed.

The Indianapolis 500 will be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 25, 2014.
