Charles Leclerc Claims Pole Position For 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc got lucky and made amends for his unfortunate 2021 Monaco Grand Prix experience by nabbing the pole position for tomorrow’s 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The qualifying sessions were a crashfest as three competitors eliminated themselves in the first two sessions but Leclerc had recorded the fastest time in the third and final session just before AlphaTauri’s rookie Yuki Tsunoda bonked into the wall and caused Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz, Jr., to take evasive action and scrape the wall as well – causing a red flag to close the session as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ seven-time defending Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton were lining up to take their flying laps.

The lucky timing of Tsunoda’s crash means that Leclerc claims his second pole position of the 2021 season with Hamilton alongside him in the first row.
