The Chevrolet Suburban has become the first vehicle ever to be awarded a star on the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame.
It would seem as though other vehicles would have had stars on the Walk of Fame – James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5, Herbie the Love Bug, the original Batmobile – but no, the plain old Chevrolet Suburban has become the first and, so far, only vehicle to earn an Award of Excellence star from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
The Chevrolet Suburban’s star resides at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in the Hollywood district in Los Angeles.
Why the Chevrolet Suburban? A recognition of lengthy service, mainly, as the Chevrolet Suburban was selected to receive the Award of Excellence star for appearing in more than 1,750 film and television series – beginning in 1952, when it first appeared in the movie “Big Jim McLain” starring John Wayne. Since then, the vehicle has appeared in at least one television series every year since 1956, and at least one film every year since 1960. [More than 30 of those films being award-nominated films].
The Chevrolet Suburban received its Hollywood Walk of Fame star in the “special” category [as stars are usually awarded in categories such as television, recording, motion pictures and live performance].
