The “Ferrari” feature film due out later this year was on the receiving end of a controversial waiver granted by actors’ union SAG-AFTRA, allowing an interim agreement for publicity while the union is on strike along with the writers’ union, WGA.
The waiver allows the movie’s cast, which includes Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz, to publicize the feature at the upcoming 2023 Venice Film Festival, New York Film Festival and any other events at which the film may screen.
SAG-AFTRA officially went on strike on July 14, 2023, in support of the WGA strike which began two months earlier but during the last month, interim agreements have been forged allowing either production or publicity to proceed for projects from non-AMPTP-affiliated producers [aka independent production companies…Neon, the producer of “Ferrari” is an indie].
“Ferrari” is set in 1957 and follows former Formula One racer Enzo Ferrari’s creation of the iconic automotive company which bears his name and charts his various travails before culminating at the notorious 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.
“Ferrari” is based on the longtime “Car and Driver” magazine executive editor Brock Yates’ biography, “Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine”.
“Ferrari” is currently scheduled for release on December 25, 2023.
