Ferrari Institutes Technical Team Reorg

Ferrari is in the midst of restructuring their technical department to stem the tide of poor results so far in the 2020 Formula One racing season as well as prepare a more structurally sound car for the 2022 season.

Specifically, Ferrari will move the current head of aerodynamics – Enrico Cardile – to lead the newly-created performance development department while giving a more prominent role to Rory Byrne, who was chief designer when the team dominated the sport two decades ago.

Ferrari feels that these changes reflect similar technical structures at the current team dominating the sport – Mercedes.

Byrne is expected to focus mainly on the design of Ferrari’s 2022 car, when F1 is introducing regulation changes designed to get the cars to aerodynamically race more closely together.

After the first three races of the 2020 season, Ferrari currently sits a distant fifth in the constructor standings – well behind Mercedes, of course, but also behind Red Bull Honda, McLaren Renault and Racing Point BWT Mercedes.
