Having not recorded a single F1 victory for the first time in 21 years, Ferrari has endured a tumultuous 2014 Formula One season and nothing is more indicative of that inner turmoil than the recent announcement from Maranello of their third team principal in eight months. Ferrari began the year under the leadership of Stefano Domenicali, but Domenicali moved on to Audi to oversee their potential return to F1 racing. Domenicali was replaced by Marco Mattiacci in April 2014 but now Mattiacci – who was hired by previous Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo and had previously been the chief of Ferrari North America – but handled the transition process and subsequent loss of lead driver Fernando Alonso poorly and has now been fired by current chairman Sergio Marchionne.
Replacing Mattiacci will be Maurizio Arrivabene, who was previously been working for Philip Morris – Marlboro is one of Ferrari’s largest advertising sponsors – and is a representative of the F1 sponsors on the F1 Commission.
The first race of the 2015 Formula One racing season takes place in Melbourne, Australia on March 15, 2015.
