Ferrari Threatens To Leave F1

Having been shut out – along with just about everybody else save last week’s lone Red Bull victory – of the 2014 Formula One racing season, Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo is considering calling it quits in the racing circuit and possibly focusing on sports car racing [such as this weekend’s LeMans race in France]. Despite being the most popular team in the sport, Ferrari has not won a Formula One season driver or team championship since 2008, hasn’t been competitive in 2014 with former world champions Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen at the wheels of their cars and in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Montezemolo, who has had frequent clashes with F1 organizers over rule changes for this season, made his position clear….

“Formula One isn’t working,” Montezemolo said. “It’s declining because [the Federation International d’Automobile, the sport’s governing body] have forgotten that people watch the racing for the excitement. Nobody watches racing for the efficiency, come on.”

The next race on the 2014 Formula One schedule is the Austrian Grand Prix on June 22, 2014.
