FiA And F1 Remain Mum On 2022 Russian Grand Prix – Some Drivers Do Not

Formula One and the FiA – the governing body of the racing series – have, so far, remained mum on the prospects of the 2022 Russian Grand Prix after Russia invaded Ukraine, however, some drivers have not.

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, who races for Aston Martin, is already certain of both his plans and thoughts on the matter. Vettel says the 2022 Russian Grand Prix should be cancelled and regardless of whether it is cancelled or not, he will not be there.

“I should not go, I will not go. We should not race in the country,” said Vettel. “I am sorry for the innocent people who are being killed for stupid reasons.”

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen concurred, saying “When a country is at war, it is not right to race there.”

So far, F1 has only issued a bland, non-committal statement saying they are monitoring the situation and have no comment on the race at this time.

The 2022 Russian Grand Prix is currently scheduled to be held in Sochi on September 25, 2022
