The International Automobile Federation [FIA] – the governing body of the Formula One racing series – issued a call for a new, competitive team to join their racing series beginning next year and lasting until at least 2020. In the past year, Formula One lost Caterham and has – for all intents and purposes – lost the former Marussia team, which competes as a shell of a team with cars that get repeatedly lapped in every race. The series is looking to add a team that will enrich their bank accounts and be competitive in the expanded upcoming racing schedule. Only the American-based Haas team is set to join the series next year and they are not expected to be competitive.
The application process includes an initial non-refundable application fee of $5000 due by the final day in June along with a larger application fee of $125,000 due in September. But new teams may be difficult to convince joining the series which is a notorious financial drain run by a FIFA-like dictator, Bernie Ecclestone.
