Ford Purchases Michigan Central Station

Ford has used some of that money they will not be using to build mid-size sedans in the future to buy the Michigan Central Station instead.

Ford will reveal plans for the abandoned train station next week [on June 19, 2018 in a community celebration]. The Beaux-Arts Classical building was designed by the same firm that designed New York’s Grand Central Station. Both were designed to have office towers in their original design concept. The 18-story office tower in Detroit with a roof height of 230 feet was the tallest rail station in the world at the time of its construction in 1913, but fell victim to various factors including the Great Depression, the deterioration of Detroit’s city core and – ironically – the advance of the automobile age. Amtrak was the last train-centric occupant of the building before departing in 1988.
