The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is set to race for the first time in Portland, Oregon after construction has forced the venue change from the New York City race. Pending approval at the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting today, the Portland Formula E race will be held on June 24, 2023.
Portland will host Round 12 of the updated Season 9 calendar of 16 races on the IndyCar road course at the Portland International Raceway.
Formula E has raced in the USA every year since Season 1 in 2015, with the exception of COVID-hit Season 6 in 2020.

There is a big, passionate fanbase for professional sports in the city, together with strong ecological credentials which makes Portland a perfect host for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
“The USA remains an important market for Formula E. We are delighted to maintain that critical presence and engage a new audience in the Pacific Northwest region in all-electric motorsport.”
Fans attending the race in Portland will see the USA debut of the Gen3 race car which reportedly produces 350 kW of power [akin to 470 BHP] while carrying the capability of reaching speeds up to 200 miles per hour – all while converting 90% of their energy to mechanical power. The Gen3 will be the first Formula E race car to employ both front and rear powertrains [thereby doubling the regenerative abilities of the previous car].
Next season will also feature two new names – Maserati and McLaren – in Formula E after Mercedes departed and they will be competing alongside Jaguar, Nissan and Porsche among the 11 teams and 22 drivers in the series.
Formula E begins their ninth season of racing in Mexico City on January 14, 2023.
