Formula One 2016 Chinese Grand Prix Preview Tidbits

Bernie's windbags assemble for dinner

The drivers have gathered in Shanghai for the third race of the 2016 Formula One season, the Chinese Grand Prix, and took the occasion to do that so-trendy social media thing – the selfie – at their annual Grand Prix Driver’s Association dinner. Everybody was there except Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean, Kevin Magnussen, Jolyon Palmer, Rio Haryanto and Stoffel Vandoorne.

As for the upcoming race, the qualifying will revert to the 2015 qualifying format after the massive failure of the attempt to create a new format in the first two races of the season in Australia and Bahrain. McLaren’s Fernando Alonso has been “provisionally” cleared to drive for McLaren in Shanghai, so reserve driver Vandoorne may not get his second race under his belt after his impressive debut in Bahrain. Finally, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton has been docked a grid penalty for switching out a gearbox on his car and can now start no higher than sixth on the grid this weekend in Shanghai.
