Formula One Decides To Go With Halo In 2018

It’s official – this week the FiA – Formula One’s governing body – confirmed that they would introduce the Halo cockpit protection concept in Formula One beginning with the 2018 racing season.

According to the FiA, the Halo represented the best overall safety option after five years of research to increase frontal head protection.

The Halo was selected over another device known as the Shield, which made its first track test debut last Friday at the 2017 British Grand Prix, but after running only a single lap with the Shield, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel reported that the curved windscreen distorted his vision and made him feel dizzy.
