Formula One Denies Potential Andretti Entry For 2026 Season

Formula One has officially rejected the Andretti Cadillac’s request to enter the sport in either the 2025 or 2026 season – despite the proposal being approved by the FiA, Formula 1’s governing body.

In doing so, F1 decided an 11th team on the grid would not “be a competitive participant” in either of those seasons but if Andretti was able to officially line up General Motors for a new F1 engine by 2028, then F1 did say they would “look differently on an application for the entry of a team into the 2028 championship with a GM power unit, either as a GM works team or as a GM customer team designing all allowable components in-house”.

Mario Andretti raced in F1 from 1968 to 1982, and won 12 grands prix in addition his world title in 1978. His son, Michael Andretti, raced for McLaren in the 1993 F1 season.

Existing F1 teams were reportedly not in favor of Andretti Cadillac’s entry for either 2025 or 2026, due to the dilution from their prize money earnings that it would have necessitated. Current rules stipulate that new entrants must pay an anti-dilution fee of $200 million to compensate the existing teams but reportedly the current teams’ consensus is that their overall values are closer to $1 billion.
