Formula One Evaluating Use Of Grid Girls

The managing director of Formula One, Ross Brawn, says the use of female promotional models known as “grid girls” is “under strong review” for the upcoming 2018 season and onward.

“There’s a lot of people respect the tradition of the grid girls and there’s people who feel that it has become a bit dated, so we’re addressing that,” said Brawn to BBC radio.

The so-called ‘grid girls’ are models who wear sponsored, usually skimpy, clothing and are required to perform promotional tasks in F1 such as holding umbrellas or driver name-boards on the grid, and lining the corridor through which the drivers walk on their way to the podium.
