A new race in the Formula One series may be on the horizon after Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone officially trademarked the name “Formula One Mediterranean Grand Prix” for future usage. The Formula One circuit already includes a Monaco, Spanish and Italian Grand Prix bordering the Mediterranean Sea, but neither is marketed as the “Mediterranean Grand Prix” leading to speculation that Ecclestone has another location in mind for the future event.
Ecclestone is reportedly considering setting up a meeting with Greece prime minister Antonis Samaras to discuss the possibility of Greece staging the event in the newly created Keratsini-Drapetsona municipality on the outskirts of Athens.
