Formula One Will Pursue Their Own Streaming Service

Formula One might join the 21st century just in time for the next decade as new owner Liberty Media’s CEO Greg Maffei has indicated that they are “excited” about creating an exclusive streaming service for races in the coming years.

When that might actually occur though, is anybody’s guess as the most imposing hurdles preventing it from occurring any time soon are sorting through all the various rights pacts that Formula One has made with broadcasters. Maffei, however, thinks it is a doable deal.

Liberty Media – which also owns Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves franchise, bought 19.1% of Formula One this year in a deal that will give it full control next year.

Maffei says that Liberty Media may also use Live Nation — the live entertainment company in which Liberty owns a 34% stake — as an avenue to help the budding Formula One streaming service.
