George Barris, designer of the iconic Batmobile for the 1960s television series, has passed away at the age of 89. In addition to transforming a Ford/Lincoln Futura into the vehicle we will always associate with the Caped Crusader, Barris also designed many other familiar and popular vehicles used in television series such as two for “the Munsters” – Herman’s Munster Koach and Grandpa’s Dragula – the Chrysler Imperial for the “Green Hornet”, the dilapidated Oldsmobile truck used for “the Beverly Hillbillies”, the car for the “Banana Splits” as well as KITT, the car used in “Knight Rider”.
Barris died in his sleep.
