General Motors has formally announced that they are abandoning Holden – the iconic Australian car brand they originally purchased in 1931. GM says they will gradually curtail Holden sales, design and engineering operations in Australia and New Zealand by next year while the manufacturing plant in Thailand will be sold to a Chinese firm.
GM had previously ended Holden manufacturing in Australia in 2017.
The Holden company began life as a saddle maker in South Australia in 1856, then progressed to vehicle manufacturing in 1908 prior to being purchased by GM in 1931.
