David Harbour [“Stranger Things”] is set to star in Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions feature film adaptation of the “Gran Turismo” video game series. Neill Blomkamp [“District 9” and “Elysium”] is set to direct the film, which will be based on a true story of the ultimate wish-fulfillment of a teenage “Gran Turismo” player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.
“Gran Turismo” was created by Japanese gaming icon Kazunori Yamauchi and was first launched in Japan in 1997 by Yamauchi’s Polyphony Digital company. The latest iteration of the game – “Gran Turismo 7” – was launched on March 4, 2022.
Sony Pictures has announced a release date of August 11, 2023 for the film.
