Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was fastest on the soft tires and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was fastest on the medium tires in the first practice session for the 2019 Mexican Grand Prix.
Hamilton was a mere 0.0119 seconds faster than Leclerc followed by the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon, then Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas in fifth and Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel in sixth.
The session was delayed 25 minutes as the track dried out from an overnight rain and quickly devolved into a lock-up fest as five cars locked up on the lengthy straight heading into Turn One and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll did them all one better by crashing into the wall at the final corner.
