Lewis Hamilton was gifted two more points in the 2019 Formula One driver’s standings when, four hours after the race had ended, the FiA had determined that Alfa Romeo should be penalized for a technical infringement – specifically, that both Alfa Romeo drivers [Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi] had their cars release their clutches early – essentially creating a false start for each car.
Each driver was penalized with 30 seconds added to their times, demoting both of them out of the top 10 and vaulting Hamilton into ninth place where he gained two points and allowed him to extend his point-scoring race streak to 23 races while also extending his already commanding driver’s standings lead to 41 points.
