Lewis Hamilton led start to finish as Mercedes continued to dominate with a 1-3 finish in the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix as teammate Valtteri Bottas finished third, split by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished second on the track but had incurred an earlier five-second penalty for an unsafe release in the pit area that damaged Bottas’ car.
Hamilton began the race in the pole position and held off Bottas, Verstappen and Vettel into the first corner and was not put under serious pressure until late in the race as he fended off some last ditch efforts from Verstappen.
With the win, Hamilton lengthens his lead over teammate Bottas while Vettel moves into third place overall in the 2019 Formula One driver’s standings.
