Hamilton Penalized And Demoted To Seventh In 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix

As expected, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was penalized five seconds for his late-race hit on Red Bull’s Alexander Albon and the resulting time demoted him to a seventh place finish in the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix.

The demotion of the current F1 world champion Hamilton gave third place to Carlos Sainz, Jr. of McLaren – McLaren’s first podium finish since the 2014 Australian Grand Prix.

With under two laps to go in the race, Hamilton attempted to make a cheeky pass of Albon at Bico De Pato and spun Albon into the runoff area and out of podium contention. Hamilton acknowledged his fault in the incident and the race stewards docked him five seconds after the race concluded.
