Current six-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton easily won the final race of the 2019 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, without being contested in the entire race. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished a distant second and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished in the third and final podium position but may have that result altered due to a technical issue where he had a fuel load discrepancy that may have been against the rules. Stewards will decide his fate later today.
As for the race, Hamilton was the pole-sitter and immediately took off on the first lap, never to be seen again by the rest of the competitors, leaving the race for second to sixth positions as the only drama for the race. Verstappen complained through much of the race about technical issues with his car but did not seem to have any problems holding off Leclerc, who had to fend off the charging Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas, who came from last place [due to incurring pre-race penalties for excessive engine parts usage] and was trying for the last podium position.
The race was only between the top six cars – which were the only cars to finish on the lead lap – as Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel claimed fifth and Red Bull’s Alex Albon was sixth.
