Hamilton Takes Partial Grid Penalty For 2021 Turkish Grand Prix

Mercedes’ seven-timed defending Formula One world champion and current F1 driver’s championship leader, Lewis Hamilton, will be assessed with a 10-place grid penalty at Sunday’s 2021 Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park.

Hamilton is being assessed with the penalty after taking on an engine component which amounts to a fourth engine – one more than is permitted for the racing season.

However, Hamilton did not replace a full engine, merely the internal combustion engine component – and by doing so, will not have the full 20-place grid penalty that others have been assessed with for their engine penalties during the season.

Hamilton currently leads Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by two points going into this weekend’s race.
