Hamilton Wins 2018 Singapore Grand Prix In A Snoozer

Lewis Hamilton won the 2018 Singapore Grand Prix in a snoozer over second place Max Verstappen from Red Bull and third place Sebastian Vettel from Ferrari. Hamilton led from start to finish minus a 12-lap pit crossover period early in the race as neither Verstappen nor Vettel were ever able to seriously challenge him.

Hamilton was the pole-sitter with Verstappen alongside him in the first row and Vettel directly behind him in the second row. Hamilton headed off Verstappen heading into the first corner while Vettel was able to pass Verstappen just before a safety car was deployed for a first lap tussle between the Force India cars of Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon that knocked Ocon out of the race. That is the way the order remained until Laps 16 to 28 during which time all three came into the pits and Verstappen was able to emerge ahead of Vettel in that period. After Hamilton reclaimed the race lead on Lap 28, the race essentially became a parade procession as the order of the top six cars never changed for the final 33 laps.

With the easy victory, Hamilton extends his lead over Vettel in the 2018 Formula One driver’s championship with 281 points to 241 for Vettel. Vettel’s Ferrari teammate, Kimi Raikkonen, maintains a slim three-point advantage – 174 to 171 points – over fourth place Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes.
