It was the same old, same old at the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai with defending world champion Lewis Hamilton cruising to an easy victory while his teammate, Valtteri Bottas, enjoyed a comfortable second place in yet another 1-2 finish for Mercedes. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished a distant third to capture the final podium position.
In what was only, essentially, a six-car race, Hamilton immediately ran away from the field from the start while Bottas took some more time to distance himself from Vettel, who was briefly detained by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and his own Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc. But it was all a moot point as the Mercedes were, once again, untouchable for the top two positions.
Only six cars finished on the lead lap with Verstappen’s Red Bll teammate, Pierre Gasly, finishing sixth.
