Hamilton Wins The 2017 Crying Kid Spanish Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton won the 2017 Spanish Grand Prix, holding off Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel while Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was a distant third to finish off the podium.

Vettel skipped past the pole-sitter Hamilton on the race start and immediately pulled away from Mercedes’ main man but while adhering to tire usage regulations – which specified that each team must use the medium tires on their car during the race – it helped to create precious little drama in determining who won the race, with Hamilton finishing on the faster, soft tires to Vettel’s slower, medium tires at the end of the race – while Ricciardo won the best-of-the-rest trophy.

But similar to the Northwestern crying kid during March Madness in the NCAA men’s Basketball championship, this race brought out another crying kid after television cameras caught a distraught young Kimi Raikkonen fan who was inconsolable after Ferrari’s Raikkonen was knocked out of the race in a tight three-car skirmish on the first turn of the race.

Hamilton’s win moved him closer to Vettel in the overall driver’s standings as Vettel held the lead with 104 points to Hamilton’s 98 points in second and Valtteri Bottas well back in third with 63 points.
